What is HVDC transmission?

The abbreviation HVDC stands for High Voltage Direct Current, which is a technology enabling the efficient transmission of large amounts of electrical energy over long distance with minimal losses.

 

HVDC systems consist of converter stations. Unlike alternating current transmission, it allows the transfer of electricity through direct current lines with very high voltages.
